General Information

In the Atlantic Ocean, buoys are deployed by the following Action Groups and national agencies. Some of the ship deployment opportunities that can be used to deploy sub-surface floats are detailed here:

Drifting buoys:

The EUCOS Surface Marine Programme (E-SURFMAR),

·         Area of interest: North Atlantic, East of 55W, 20N to 65N.

·         About 50 buoys deployed yearly

The International South Atlantic Buoy Programme (ISABP)

·         Area of interest: South Atlantic Ocean 55S to 20N.

·         Over 100 buoys deployed yearly

The Global Drifter Programme

·         Atlantic ocean

·         Western Tropical Atlantic for the hurricane array (10 drifters/year during hurricane event)
